With a downlight, you usually remove the trim, disconnect the driver, and pull the housing through the ceiling opening. Not hard, but messy. With track lighting, you can do this:

  • Remove the bulbs and slide the track heads out of the channel.
  • Disconnect the live connector where the track meets the junction box.
  • Unscrew the track from the ceiling and lower it carefully.
  • Install the new track, reattach the heads, and restore power.

That's the honest version. Two hours on a good day. But simpler doesn't mean safer. Track lighting has live parts exposed while you're working. If you're not 100% comfortable with wiring, hire a licensed electrician. This gets into electrical code territory, which isn't my expertise. For an emergency, track lighting wins because you can replace one head in five minutes. Which Should You Choose?

If you need a simple, budget-friendly downlight for a dry ceiling and you have a small stock of replacements, a standard fixture like the DN060B is fine. Just verify the IP rating and buy the right version the first time.
